Fixing Annoying Blue Standby Lights

Fixing Annoying Blue Standby Lights

For reasons that escape me there seems to a trend for standby lights on home electronics to be blue "searchlights". This "feature" is especially annoying when the electronics are in a bedroom or the home is a one room flat for that matter. Some manufacturers helpfully allow these to be turned on, but not all, and not on the JVC LT-39C740 I recently bought from Currys.

Virtualmin-Webmin VPS Mail Problems

This is a collection of the mail related issues, such as configuring spam-assassin, reducing spam with postfix, setting up SPF and DKIM and over-coming the "guilty until proven innocent" or as it is often searched, "Yahoo blocked my mail server" or "Tesco blocked my mail server". Try those (no quotes) and see how many hits those get, 2,500,000, and 145,000 at last count!

Panasonic DMC-FZ200 Camera Bag

Panasonic DMC-FZ200 Camera Bag

Whenever one upgrades camera there is always the problem of find a new camera bag, not too big, not small, but just right. So for the benefit of those in the same position this how things fit into the Case Logic TBC-406 which I got for my new Panasonic DMC-FZ200. This bag takes my hoya filter pouch, 2 spare batteries, and the FZ200, lens down, with the lens hood attached in the normal position (rather than reversed in the storage position).

Panasonic DMC-FZ200 Soft Lens Cap

Panasonic DMC-FZ200 Soft Lens Cap

I've recently upgraded my camera to a Panasonic DMC-FZ200 but unfortunately the FZ200 isn't perfect. A major problem is the ergonomics of the lens hood and lens cap. To avoid flare the lens hood should always be used so ideally the camera is stored with the lens hood attached in the working position. This means that the lens cap has to be fitted and removed inside the lens hood which is very fiddly and I find it hard to avoid hitting the lens with the (hard plastic) lens cap. This is my answer to this problem.
